The Journey to a Disciplined Life

Jamilah Mottley Brown (LA’08) | Principal Designer | JM Interior Stylings, LLC

Small steps count.

This is one of my favorite sayings. It always seems applicable when I’m encouraging friends to follow through on their big idea, or move confidently in the direction of their dreams.

In a world full of flash, huge launches, and highlight reels, it is intimidating to move forward at a seemingly slower pace than everyone around you.

Moreover, we’re already so busy! Where — and how — do you start making time for something new when you’re struggling to juggle everything you already have on your plate?

If you’ve ever wondered how to make room in your life for a new business, or find time to work out consistently, or finally get your house organized — then it’s time to start your journey to a disciplined life.

The word discipline isn’t very sexy, but we all need it in order to reach our goals.

When I say discipline, I’m not referring to the other worldly version of the term that only seems accessible to body builders and professional athletes.

The discipline I’m talking about is for the everyday person. The type of discipline where small, consistent steps lead to hugely impactful results.
